Google, the leading Internet browser in the world, on Wednesday launched technology to insert advertisements in online video games and get revenue from this booming sector. The software, called AdSense for Games, is in beta testing and allows placing video ads, image or text at the beginning and end or change of level in an online game. The ads are charged on a cost per impression or cost per click, and the proceeds divided between Google and game developers or publishers, said in a statement. Google is working with game makers such as Konami Corp and Demand Media, run by former MySpace chairman Richard Rosenblatt, as well as advertisers like Sprint Nextel Corp and Sony Pictures, Sony Corp. Data from comScore indicate that a quarter of Internet users, or about 200 million people using online games, and the figure rises to 17 percent.
