Nine months ago, Google launched the Google Chrome browser, used by more than 30 million people. Now, on the assumption that most operating systems were designed in an era when there was still no Internet, Google wants to create an OS designed for the era of online browsing.

Google Chrome the operating system will be lightweight and open source, designed for netbooks. Later this year, the company will release its source code and hopes to have ready the first netbooks with Google Chrome the operating system for the second half of 2010.

The user interface is minimal since most of the user experience takes place on the web.

To develop this operating system, Google is working with many partners and will soon begin to work with developers of the free software community. The goal is speed, simplicity and safety. "We want to be fast and light, which is launched and you connect to the Internet in seconds. The user interface is minimal since most of the user experience takes place on the web", explains the company in a press release.

"As we did with the Google Chrome browser, we are completely redesigning the security architecture behind the operating system so that users do not have to deal with viruses, malicious software and security updates," added.

Google Chrome the operating system will run on ARM and x86 processors. The software architecture is simple: it is run Google Chrome in a new window system on a Linux kernel. All web-based applications will run automatically and can create new applications using web technology that is preferred. These applications not only run both Google Chrome the operating system, as in any standard browser on Windows, Mac and Linux so that developers will have a potential user base far greater.

What is the relationship between this project and Android?

Android was designed from the beginning to be used in a variety of devices, from mobile to TV adapters or netbooks. Google Android and continues to invest in expanding the range of consumer products that use it, but the operating system Google Chrome is an independent initiative that has been created both for netbooks as for desktop computers and is designed for users who spend most of their time online.

"We have much work ahead and we know we're going to need lots of help from the FOSS community to develop our project. We are excited about what the future holds," concluded the note.
